The wall is 40 feet high and has 12 different climbing stations with more than 2,500 square feet of climbing surface, offering challenges for climbers of all skill levels. The Department of Recreational Services offers a full service climbing facility that includes top rope, lead and boulder climbing, rappelling and indoor climbing lessons, group rentals, programs for kids, schools, families, and scouts, and team building opportunities. Let the staff at the wall introduce you to the thrill of indoor rock climbing while you improve your strength, balance and coordination.


Safety and Skills Test (107000)
This test certifies participants to climb and belay at the SRWC climbing wall. Upon successful completion of this test, participants will have a four month membership at the climbing wall. Participants must wait 24 hours after taking the Introduction to Climbing Clinic to take this test, however, it is not mandatory to take the clinic prior to taking this test.

Introduction to Climbing Clinic (103000)
This clinic is a must for beginners and includes two hours of lessons under the guidance of an experienced climbing instructor on our 35-foot-high indoor climbing wall. Participants who wish to learn the necessary skills to climb, or are simply looking for a review will benefit from this clinic. Participants will learn knot-tying, belaying techniques, rope management skills, technical equipment use and climbing commands. Participants who complete this clinic will be prepared to take the Safety and Skills Test. The test fee is included in the clinic fee.

Level I Climbing Clinic (103100)
New to climbing? Want to learn more? This clinic is designed for beginning climbers who have already taken the Introduction to Climbing Clinic. Basic strategies for moving on rock will be discussed, including footwork, balance and conserving energy. This clinic will also cover reading routes and their rules, as well as differences in bouldering and roped climbing techniques. Participants signing up for this clinic are required to use climbing shoes, which can be provided if needed.

Level II Climbing Clinic (103200)
This clinic is for intermediate climbers who would like to improve their climbing technique. Topics covered in this clinic include advanced footwork, route finding and interpretation and use of rest positions. Participants who want to prepare for a Lead Introduction Clinic (see page 5) are encouraged to participate in this clinic. Participants signing up for this clinic are required to use climbing shoes, which can be provided if needed.

Lead Introduction Clinic (106000)
This clinic is for experienced climbers who are ready for a real challenge and want to advance their climbing skills beyond top roping and bouldering. Experienced lead climbing instructors will teach safe and efficient lead belaying, clip protection, lead climbing techniques and the art of falling. Participants who complete this clinic will be prepared to take the Lead Test. The test fee is included in the clinic fee.

Lead Test (108000)
In order to lead climb at the wall, all participants must pass a Lead Test. This test only has to be passed once. The participant must be able to do the following: top rope a 5.9 route (in both directions) and clip quickly and efficiently with both hands. Participants must wait 24 hours after taking the Lead Introduction Clinic to take this test, however, it is not mandatory to take the clinic prior to taking this test.

Introduction to Rappelling Clinic (104000)
Designed for those new to rappelling, this clinic will teach participants to rappel under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Rappelling technique, commands, equipment and safety are covered in this clinic.

Family Climbing Clinic (105000)
This clinic, designed for families with climbers 12 years of age or younger, will teach parents to belay while their children climb. Children will be taught about climbing safety and parents will learn knot-tying, belaying techniques, rope management skills, technical equipment use and climbing commands. At least one parent or legal guardian must attend with each child. Successful completion of this clinic allows the family to climb together.

Large Group Climbing Clinic (105001)
Do you have a large group who wants to learn how to climb? This clinic is for participants wishing to gain the necessary skills to climb the wall or who are looking for a review. Participants will learn knot-tying, belaying techniques, rope management skills, technical equipment use and climbing commands. Participants who complete this clinic will be prepared to take the Safety and Skills Test. The test fee is included in the clinic fee.

ABS Bouldering Competition (109100)
Designed for all climbing abilities, our annual competition will test your bouldering skills. Participants choose how many problems they wish to attempt, with points only be awarded for completing the entire problem as marked, without any aid.

All climbers must first obtain entrance to the SRWC by membership or as the guest of a member. However, all scheduled climbing wall programming includes admission to the building. Guests must be accompanied by an approved climber.

Ready to purchase your own climbing gear? The Adventure Center has the solution for you with its climbing wall Pro Shop. We feature harnesses, shoes, chalk, chalk bags, bouldering pads, and even holds for your home wall. Our staff can answer any questions you might have about what you need.

We provide all the necessary equipment for climbing. Climbers may use their own harnesses provided the wall staff approves them. All climbers must use the provided belay devices, carabineers and ropes.

There are no age requirements to climb at the wall; however, climbers must be at least 13 years of age to belay. All approved climbers ages
13 - 17 must be accompanied by an approved adult climber at all times.  A parent or legal guardian must be present during all Try Climbs unless an event has been scheduled through the Department of Recreational Services.


The wall is open to anyone, but each climber, regardless of ability, must take the Safety and Skills Test every four months to become an approved climber. Climbers ages of 13 - 17 years old can become approved provided they have a parent or legal guardian attend the Safety and Skills Test and sign all waivers. Climbers 12 years of age and under may not belay.


All participants must sign an "Indoor Climbing Wall Acknowledgement of Risk and Release" agreement. Participants under the age of 18 must have the form signed by their parent or legal guardian. A parent must be present unless the event has been scheduled through the Department of Recreational Services.
